'Weimar' - a celebration of Decadence

Originally a series of three interconnected monologues performed between two separate characters ('Berlin Girlz', 'Marlene and Me' and 'Die Freudlose Gasse'). The trilogy was conceived for the 2023 Scottish national poetry slam final, at which I was able to perform the first two sections. Later, the trilogy was extended to four pieces (with a less downbeat epilogue, 'Weimar, Schmeimar').

Diverse influences range from Bob Fosse to Alban Berg, Georges Bataille, Kurt Weill, Marlene Dietrich, Bertolt Brecht, Ute Lemper and Adam Ant (!).

The themes and elements which inspired the original trilogy have gone on to create additional works and reiterations, such as the musical version of 'Berlin Girlz' and 'Song of the Street', which cites the influence of the French tradition via the songs of Piaf and their reinterpretations by Ute Lemper.
