Ulfhednar - Celtic, Viking, pagan myth music project

"Ulfhednar (Old Norse, 'wolf skins'). These are mentioned in Old Norse literature in connexion with berserks, and belong like them to the type of warrior in animal guise who had their origin in the cult bands of warriors dedicated to Odin..."

(Rudolf Simek, A Dictionary of Northern Mythology)

Begun in summer 2020, Ulfhednar is my personal music project which aims to blend themes of Celtic and Norse myth with aspects of landscape, nature, local history and gendered identity. With lo-fi production values, emphasis tends to be on atmosphere, mood and melody rather than polish. Genres covered include Black Metal, Celtic folk, ambient, atmospheric and Viking Metal, with influences drawn from a wide variety of artists. Future releases will be channelling aspects of, among other things, Eugene Thacker's various philosophical theories of 'cosmic pessimism'.

'Will of Steel' - inspirational power metal.

Black metal track 'Frozen Sepulchre of the Once-Bright King', inspired by the mythographical writings of Robert Graves and a version of which was used in the Eston Arts commission film 'Solstice'.

Another rough demo track, this time 'Valkyrie metal', being an adaptation of Thomas Gray's 'Fatal Sisters: an Ode': Footage taken from the shoot from 'The Wanderer & the Wish-Maid'.

The first demo EP, Midvintersblót, has recently been released via Bandcamp:

Two subsequent EPs - Macha, inspired by Celtic goddess themes, and Disir, more Norse-influenced, are also available to hear or download via Bandcamp.
